Small Orders of Custom Folding Fans: Practical Options

Summary

Keep the details that matter and simplify construction, artwork versions or packaging when the order is small.

Ask what the minimum applies to

For a small custom folding fan order, send us the quantity per design and the packaging requirements. We confirm the applicable minimum for the fan construction, artwork versions and printed packs.

Tell us which features matter most so we can discuss a suitable construction and printing approach for your quantity.

Minimum to checkWhy it matters
Fan constructionA size, material or frame change may have a different minimum from an available construction.
Each design or color versionSeveral designs may be treated as separate production runs.
Printed packagingA sleeve or box may have its own minimum, even when the fan quantity is acceptable.

Count each design separately

Send us the quantity for every artwork version and the combined total. We can then confirm which versions can share a production run and which need separate preparation.

  • Name each design and give its quantity.
  • Identify any shared front or reverse artwork.
  • Mark changes to names, dates, colors or printed sides.
  • List the quantity for each sleeve, box or other printed pack.

Confirm the minimum for each group before preparing final artwork. A combined order quantity does not automatically meet a minimum that applies per design or packaging version.

Keep the fan construction simple

For a small run, ask us about an available construction that suits the intended use and concentrate the customization on the printed surface. This can avoid asking for a new combination of size, frame and finish for a small run.

Ask for one clearly described option, not just “the cheapest fan.” Confirm its closed size, fan surface, frame material and how your artwork will be printed. Check a relevant sample if appearance and handling matter.

Do not accept a construction that fails the intended use just to reach a smaller minimum. An unreadable program or a fan that does not fit its gift pack is still the wrong product.

Reduce versions where it makes sense

A shared fan design can reduce the number of artwork versions. If several departments or events need the same main artwork, ask whether one print run is possible and keep their quantities separate in the packing list.

If names or dates only need to appear on the presentation, a separate tag or insert may be worth comparing. Ask whether those items can be supplied, and include local printing or assembly costs if your team will arrange them.

This does not suit every order. If the fan itself must carry a guest name, sponsor logo or event date, keep that requirement and ask for a realistic quote. Personalization outside the fan is an option only when it still meets the brief.

Use simpler packaging when suitable

Simple packaging can reduce the work needed for a small order. Ask whether a suitable plain sleeve, standard pack or bulk protective packing is available instead of a custom printed box.

Check protection and fit before choosing by price. A loose or oversized pack may need extra material; an attractive but tight sleeve may make the fan difficult to remove. If individual gift presentation is essential, keep it in the specification.

Where printed packaging has a higher minimum, ask who receives and pays for the unused quantity. Do not assume a supplier will store it or that it will fit a future fan order.

Use a sample to answer the main risk

Small orders still need clear approval. An existing fan can help you assess handling and construction, but it does not prove your printed artwork. A digital proof can check names and layout, but it does not confirm the finished physical color or feel.

Choose sample work around what is uncertain: print readability across folds, a two-sided design, material feel or packaging fit. Ask which parts use the proposed production materials and which are substitutes.

FoldCool’s typical sample-making time is 3–7 days, with shipping separate. Sample type, fees, revisions and the schedule for your request need confirmation.

Plan for the next step

For an event, give the arrival deadline and delivery address at the first enquiry. For a trial sales order, keep the specification clear enough to request the same design again, but confirm future availability, minimums and pricing when reordering.

Do not choose a larger first order solely to reach a lower unit price. Compare the total spend with the stock you can realistically use. Email info@foldcool.com with your quantity by design and the details you are willing to simplify.

Frequently Asked Questions

We confirm this for the proposed designs and construction. Send the quantity for each version and identify changes to artwork, colors or printed sides so we can check minimums and setup requirements.

Ask about an available fan construction, fewer artwork versions and simpler packaging. Keep the features needed for the fan to work well, such as readable printing and a suitable size. Availability and any effect on price or minimum quantity need confirmation.

Base the decision on what needs checking, not only the quantity. Existing samples can show construction; your own printed and assembled sample can answer questions about artwork, folds and fit. Confirm the sample cost and what it will actually demonstrate.
