Choosing Your Fan
Consider where the fan will be used, how it feels and how it will be packed.
Design Examples
Choose a style as a starting point for your own colors, artwork and message.
Leaf & Frame Materials
The leaf and frame together affect how the fan looks and feels.
- Paper leafPaper has a stationery-like surface. Thickness, coating and folds affect how it handles.
- Fabric leafFabric gives the fan a textile feel. Specify the fiber composition, weave and edge finish.
- Bamboo frameBamboo has visible grain. Rib thickness, finish and pivot affect how the fan feels.
- Wood frameSpecify the wood species and finish; the word “wood” does not define either.
Fan Dimensions
State dimensions in clear units. If you have existing packaging, include its usable internal size.
- Closed lengthMeasure between the endpoints shown on the drawing. State separately whether a tassel or other attachment is included.
- Open spanMeasure the overall width at the specified open position, rather than relying on a size name.
- Leaf profileThe leaf’s curve and depth, along with exposed ribs, define the shape and print area.
- Packed sizeMeasure the fan with its sleeve, pouch or box when planning display, storage and transport.
Artwork
Start with a sketch or reference photo. Final artwork must fit the curved leaf and keep key details clear of folds and edges.
- LogosLeave space around logos so they stay readable when the fan is partly open.
- Names and datesCheck lettering at actual print size to keep names, dates and short messages legible.
- All-over patternsPatterns can cover the leaf. Keep important details inside the template’s safe area.
- Front and reverseIdentify each side clearly if the front and reverse use different designs.
Printing & Color
The print method depends on the artwork and leaf material. Check color and detail on a physical sample.
- Spot-color designsSolid designs may suit screen printing on a compatible surface. Setup and fine detail affect the choice.
- Detailed illustrationsDigital printing may suit gradients or multicolor images if the surface is compatible. Results depend on the material and process.
- Color referencesProvide a physical color sample or a clearly named color reference. Colors on an uncalibrated screen may not match the print.
- Finished fanCheck the folds, reverse-side visibility and artwork near the ribs on the finished sample.
Packaging Options
Choose packaging that fits the closed fan and suits how it will be displayed or handed out.
- Paper sleeveSlim packaging for a name, logo or note. It should hold the fan without catching its edges.
- Fabric pouchSoft storage for reuse. Specify the fabric, closure and size.
- Gift boxA gift box can hold an insert or message. Its outer dimensions affect storage and shipping volume.
- Event packingBundles with clear counts and carton labels help venue teams hand out the fans. Include protection for transport.
